How are Government Policies Helping Indian Farmers In Growth?

single

As per a government report, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) insured crops of more than 36 crore farmers in India. PMFBY is not the only scheme that benefits the farmers; there are so many other farmers' welfare schemes in India. Every new Government rolls out different farmers' welfare schemes and policies for the betterment of the Indian farmers. From Central Govt. to State Governments, dedicated departments, boards, and officials for the agriculture industry look closely into the problems that the industry and its stakeholders are going through.

Various farmers' welfare schemes, from social security to crop insurance, help Indian farmers. All the schemes have different eligibility criteria, implementation methods, and associated benefits. The Department of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare is responsible for the incorporation of the schemes in an unbiased manner. Without wasting time anymore, let's figure out what these welfare schemes for farmers in India are. And how farmers can enroll in government schemes in India.

Crop Insurance Schemes

When you are on the hunt for government schemes for farmers in India, crop insurance schemes are the major ones that you will find. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) has benefited crores of farmers with crop insurance that protects farmers from any crop loss due to natural disasters. Crop insurance schemes protect farmers from financial risks that occur due to crop loss. Apart from this major scheme, other insurance schemes for farmers are the Weather-based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), Coconut Palm insurance scheme (CPIS), etc.

Minimum Income Support

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is an initiative from the Government of India that ensures farmers get minimum income support every year for more financial stability. Not only for domestic needs but also provides financial assistance for purchasing agriculture-related things.

Social Security Scheme

Considering the social security of the farmers, the Government of India has started schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PMKMY). PMKMY is a contributory pension scheme providing financial assistance to old-aged farmers without income.

Others Schemes

Technology is important for the farmers, and so is the mechanization of the agriculture segment. To make farming more profitable, farmers need modern equipment, and the Government provides financial assistance and subsidies to buy modern agricultural implements. There are many schemes, such as the National Food Security Mission (NFSM), where farmers can avail of this benefit.

Segment Specific Schemes

Agriculture doesn't only mean wheat and rice production; other segments include dairy, animal husbandry, aquaculture (fisherman), etc. The Government of India considers every segment important for the economy and has different schemes for all the segments.

Scope of Improvement

Although there are a lot of schemes and policies put into force by the Indian Government, there is still a lot of scope for improvement. There is some glitch that keeps the farmers away from the benefits of Government policies. Following are some of the reasons why farmers are not taking the leverage of these schemes and policies at its fullest:

Lack of awareness

The major issue that is abandoning farmers from the benefit of Government policies is the lack of awareness. According to a survey conducted in the country's eight states, farmers are still unaware of the schemes such as PMFBY (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana). However, the Indian Government is using different channels online and offline to promote these schemes to generate awareness among the farmers, and the level of awareness is gradually increasing.

Complex process

Another outcome of the survey mentioned above states that applying for government schemes is difficult for most farmers. To make these complex processes a little more simple for farmers, the Government has started making use of the internet to make processes fast and simple.
